Second Language Acquisition Research under East-Asian Native Speakers' Context 東アジア言語母語話者の第二言語習得研究

While cross-linguistic influences of the first language (L1) are often discussed in second language (L2) acquisition research, the focus has long been primarily on European languages. In this session, in collaboration with researchers from Seoul National University and Peking University, we will share research on L2 learners of East Asian languages such as Japanese, Korean, and Chinese as mother tongues, and discuss what kind of empirical L2 acquisition research is needed in the future to unravel language universality and diversity from phonetic, grammatical, and pragmatic perspectives.

This workshop is held jointly with PPPL (University of Tsukuba) and SWELL (Seoul National University) and is followed by an additional seminar on October 4 (Fri.).

Our session introduction video is available here.
