"This session examines how the teachings of Jigoro Kano can contribute to the physical, intellectual, and moral development of young individuals navigating the new challenges of the 21st century.
Kano established Kodokan Judo to provide Japanese youth with training that would equip them to adapt to the profound transformation of the Meiji Restoration. Since then, despite judo’s recognition as an Olympic sport today, it has maintained its educational essence which has been a pivotal factor in its global dissemination. Judo has become a great source of “soft power” to share the values across national borders.
As our world undergoes a new transformation today, this session convenes researchers and professionals of different national backgrounds and disciplines. It shows how rethinking the educational aspect of judo for young individuals as developed by Jigoro Kano helps us take on the new challenges of our time and imagine the future in the soft way."

嘉納は、明治維新という大変革へ若者が対応する訓練の場として、講道館柔道を設立した。それ以来、今日柔道はオリンピック競技となったが、その教育的エッセンスは継承され柔道の世界的普及の原動力となり、国境を越えた価値観共有の「ソフトパワー」の源となっている。
本セッションでは、世界が新しい変動期を迎えた今日、異国異分野の研究者と実務家が集結して、嘉納治五郎が示した若者の教育としての柔道を再考することにより、時代の新しい課題に挑み、柔よく剛を制する未来へ発信する。"
